京都超SDGsコンソーシアムは、世界各国のユース世代を対象として、SDGsについて真剣に考え議論し発信することを目的とした年間プログラム「地球環境ユースサミット2024」を実施しました。この地球環境ユースサミット2024は、2023年9月から2024年2月に開催する「導入講座」と、2024年2月から2024年8月にかけて開催する「本講座」からなり、その集大成として、2024年8月8日～10日に「京都・宮津サミット」を開催しました。

京都府立青少年海洋センター「マリーンピア」を会場として、本講座で半年間議論してきた内容のポスター発表を行うほか、「海の京都」宮津において地域の課題や地球環境問題について実地で学ぶプログラムを実施しました。中高生約50人（うち10人がマレーシア、インドネシア、ベトナム、インド、中国などから渡航）に加え、地元の京都府立宮津天橋高校から23人、京都府海洋高校から17人が参加し、大学生・院生20人以上とスタッフを含めて計140人での開催となりました。

初日は、宮津の景勝地である天橋立を訪問し、「海の京都」を体感しました。天橋立を一望できる天橋立ビューランドに入園し、智恩寺を訪問した後に、天橋立の中の浜で地元漁業者のご協力の下、地曳網体験を行いました。マリーンピアに到着後は、宮津産の海産物を使ったバーベキューを行い、親睦を深めました。参加者同士が対話するワークショップも実施し、互いのことを知るチャンスとなりました。

2日目の朝は、マリーンピアの目の前の砂浜でクリーンアップ活動を行い、プラスチックごみ800個以上を含む計約1500個のごみを回収し、綺麗な自然との対照的な現実に驚いていました。午前中は、ポスター発表を実施しました。グループでの議論の内容を発表するとともに、他の中高生や大学生から質問やフィードバックを受け、さらなるブラッシュアップに繋がる会となりました。午後は、5つのコースに分かれた実地研修プログラムを実施しました。大手川を訪れたAコースは、宮津天橋高校フィールド探究部が取り組んできた親水公園での環境づくりについて、川の流れを変えるための障害物設置や生き物調査を行い、川と人間活動の関わりについて学びました。上世屋を訪れたBコースは、棚田や藤織りをはじめ、丹後の里山の豊かな自然と文化を体感しました。マリーンピアと日置の往復には、漁業者の方々の協力により漁船を活用させていただき、移動時間の短縮と共に、海から見た宮津も堪能しました。マイクロプラ調査のCコースは、海洋高校を訪問し、海洋高校海洋科学科の生徒たちによる、英語での学校紹介と交流プログラムに参加しました。その後、隣接する栗田浜にてマイクロプラスチックを採集し、株式会社リコーの樹脂判別センサーも使いながら、海洋プラスチック問題について学びました。海底ごみ調査のDコースは、朝に漁船に乗り込み、宮津湾でのけた網の操業を観察しました。けた網にはトリガイやナマコ以外にも様々な海底ごみが入るため、漁業者が普段から行っているごみ分別を実践し、漁業における課題を実感しました。プラスチック汚染について考えるEコースは、国連環境計画（UNEP）アジア太平洋州事務所の講師からレクチャーを受けた後、ミップルを訪問し、3Rの観点から商品パッケージや素材の工夫などを実地調査し、自分たちのアクションプランを構築しました。

夜にはナイトミーティングとして、京都府参与（元副知事）の山下晃正さんにお越しいただき、水や文化の話を通じて、地球環境問題に対してユースからアクションを起こす意義や心構えについてお話しいただきました。また、実地研修プログラムのそれぞれのコースで学んだ内容を他のコースのメンバーに共有しました。

最終日は、実地研修プログラムで学んだ内容を、大阪・関西万博を含む様々な機会で国内外へ発信すべく、英語の動画やリーフレットとしてまとめるグループワークを行いました。短時間のワークになりましたが、作成の状況を互いに共有し、後日の完成に向けたフィードバックを行いました。

プログラムを通して、地球環境問題に取り組むユース同士の交流と、フィールドに出て実地で学ぶ課題を十二分に味わった3日間となりました。普段は会うことのない中高生同士が親睦を深め、良い仲間づくりの機会となりました。また、海外からの参加者は、初めて日本を訪れた人ばかりで、宮津での思い出は忘れがたいものになったようです。

2024年7月20日（土）に、国連環境計画（UNEP）のMushtaq Memon博士をお招きし、”Towards Tide Turner: Youth Voices and Actions for Plastic Pollution”、と題した特別オンラインセミナーを開催しました。

このままのペースでプラスチックを使っていったらどうなるのかというシミュレーションや、使い捨てプラスチック製品を減らすにはどうすればよいか、など、プラスチック問題について様々な側面から講義をしていただきました。ユース世代が実際に行っているアクションもたくさん紹介され、私たちユース世代の参加者も大変刺激を受けたのではないでしょうか。

講義のあとには、なぜユース世代が行動を起こすことが重要なのか、どうしたら政府や周りの人を動かせるのか、などのテーマで意見交換が行われました。今回はオンラインセッションということで、海外ユースの参加率も高く、各国の状況についても盛んに意見交換が行われていました。

ユース世代が問題意識を持てば将来にわたり長期的な変革を起こせること、周りの友達から政府に至るまで、意見を様々なステークホルダーに伝える手段はたくさんあること、など、Mushtaq Memon博士からも力強いメッセージをいただきました。

8月に行われる宮津サミットでは、海洋プラスチックに関するアクティビティもたくさん予定されています。ユース世代だからこそできるアクションがあるのだと自信を持って、宮津で学ぶことをアクションに繋げていきたいです。

On July 20th, 2024, Dr. Mushtaq Memon of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) gave a special online seminar titled “Towards Tide Turner: Youth Voices and Actions for Plastic Pollution.

He lectured on various aspects of the plastic problem, including a simulation of what will happen if we continue to use plastic at the current rate, and how we can reduce the amount of single-use plastic products. Many actions that the youth generation is actually taking were also introduced, and we, the youth generation participants, were very much inspired by them.

After the lectures, participants exchanged opinions on themes such as why it is important for the youth to take action and how they can motivate the government and others around them. Since this was an online session, there was a high participation rate of overseas youth, and opinions were actively exchanged about the situation in each country.

Dr. Mushtaq Memon gave a strong message that if the youth generation is aware of the issues, they can make long-term changes in the future, and that there are many ways to communicate their opinions to various stakeholders, from their friends to governments.

The Kyoto-Miyazu Summit in August will include many activities related to marine plastics. We would like to connect what will we learn in Miyazu to action with confidence that there are actions we, the youth, can take.

2024年6月15日（土）13:00から、京都超SDGsコンソーシアム加盟企業である「日本マクドナルド株式会社」から、サステナビリティに関わる取り組みのご紹介をいただく特別講座を開催しました。
これは、本講座（2024年2月～8月）期間中の特別講座として企画・開催したものです。
日本マクドナルド株式会社サステナビリティ＆ESG部の赤松慎太郎様に、京都大学吉田キャンパスにお越しいただきました。ユースサミット参加者からは、高校生8名に加え大学生メンター8名がオンサイトで参加しました。
また、国連環境計画（UNEP）のMushtaq Memon博士にも特別ゲストとしてお越しいただきました。UNEPのMemon博士のチームからは、7月20日（土）に特別講座を、8月9日（金）には京都・宮津サミットのプログラムとしてワークショップを開催いただきます。

はじめに、赤松様からは、日本マクドナルド株式会社が行っている持続可能な調達、食品ロス削減、脱プラスチックなどに向けた取り組みと、健康と福祉への取り組み（ドナルド・マクドナルド・ハウス）について英語でご紹介いただきました。次に、いくつかのグループに分かれて、講義の内容を振り返り、どんな取り組みがあると嬉しいかを議論しました。
例えば、ハンバーガーの包装紙にローカルデザイン（着物の柄や環境啓発のデザインなど）を導入する案や、ベジバーガーの提供（インドなどでは提供されているが日本では提供なし）といったユニークな提案がなされました。また、紙製ストローの導入を例として、プラスチック製ストローから紙製ストローに移行してもシングルユースである点は変わらないことから、リサイクルやリユースの方法を考えたいという意見も出ました。この意見を受けて、紙コップなどについては一部地域でリサイクルに向けた取り組みを行っていることが、赤松様から紹介されました。
さらに、Memon博士と高校生の対話も行われ、互いに対話をし、アクションを取っていくことの重要性が語られました。

On June 15 (Sat.), 2024, from 1:00 PM, we held a special lecture featuring McDonald’s Company (Japan), Ltd., a member of the Kyoto Beyond SDGs Consortium, to introduce their sustainability efforts.
This event was part of a special lecture series during the main seminar period (February – August 2024) of Earth Youth Summit 20245 in KYOTO. We invited Mr. Shintaro Akamatsu from Division of Sustainability & ESG, McDonald’s Company (Japan), Ltd., to Kyoto University’s Yoshida Campus. 8 high school students and 8 university student mentors from the Earth Youth Summit attended the event in person.
Additionally, Dr. Mushtaq Memon from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) attended as a special guest. Dr. Memon’s team from UNEP will conduct a special lecture on July 20 (Sat.), and a workshop as part of the Kyoto-Miyazu Summit program on August 9 (Fri.).

First, Mr. Akamatsu talked in English about McDonald’s Company (Japan), Ltd.’s efforts in sustainable sourcing, reducing food waste, eliminating plastic, and their health and welfare activities (Donald McDonald House). Next, we divided into groups to review the lecture and talk about what kind of initiatives we would like to see. Some ideas included using local designs (like kimono patterns or environmental awareness designs) on hamburger wrappers and offering veggie burgers (available in countries like India but not in Japan). There was also a suggestion that even though switching from plastic to paper straws is good, they are still single-use items, so we should think about recycling or reusing them. In response, Mr. Akamatsu mentioned some regional trials to recycle paper cups.
Furthermore, Dr. Memon had a conversation with the high school students, highlighting the importance of talking and taking action together.

2024年6月1日に地球環境ユースサミット2024 in KYOTOの本講座第2回中間報告会を開催しました。学校のテストや部活の試合などで忙しい時期ですが、参加者23名、メンター13名の参加がありました。

2024年4月13日に開催された第一回中間報告会から本報告会までは、各グループが選んだトピックに関連する３つのキーワードをもとに、本質的な問いを立ててきました。今回は、それらの議論をもとに、クリティカルシンキングの練習を行いました。６つのブレイクアウトルームにランダムに分かれて議論をしました。普段とは異なるメンバーと議論でき、充実した時間になったことと思います。具体的には、「あなたのアイデアの動機は何ですか？」「あなたのアイデアは課題解決に適していますか？」という二つの問いをテーマとしました。参加者は、これらの難しい問いについて真剣に考えていました。あるブレイクアウトルームでは、リサイクルは重要なことである一方で高いコストがかかるため、どのように扱っていくべきかという議論が交わされていました。

後半は、自分のグループに戻って前半の議論の内容を共有した後、自分たちの議論を深めました。クリティカルシンキングの練習を活かして、多くのグループが問題の見方やアプローチ方法を見直しました。

次回は、7/13に第３回中間報告会が行われます。宮津サミット前、最後のオンラインミーティングです。第３回中間報告会に向けて議論がさらに盛り上がることを願っています。

The 2nd Progress Meeting of the Main seminar, Earth Youth Summit 2024 in KYOTO was held on June 1st, 2024. Despite being a busy time of year with school exams and club activities, 23 youth participants and 13 mentors attended the meeting.

From the first progress meeting held on April 13  to this meeting, each group has been making essential questions based on three keywords related to their chosen topic. The first half of this meeting, participants were randomly divided into six groups to practice critical thinking based on these discussions. It should be a fulfilling time for the them to discuss with different members than usual. Specifically, “What is the motivation behind your idea?” and “Is your idea appropriate to solve the issue?” were the two topics of the session. The participants thought seriously about these difficult questions. In one breakout room, participants discussed “how recycling should be handled because it is important but expensive”.

The second half, participants gathered in their own groups to share their discussions from the first half and then to deepen their own discussions. Many groups used critical thinking exercises to review how they view and approach problems.

The next meeting, 3rd progress meeting, will be held on July 13th. This is the last online meeting before Kyoto-Miyazu Summit. We hope that the discussions will be more exciting towards the next meeting.

2024年4月13日に地球環境ユースサミット2024 in KYOTOの本講座第１回進捗報告会を開催しました。

本講座では８月の宮津サミットに向け、1班4~6名の少人数グループで議論を進めています。2月24日のキックオフミーティングから第１回進捗報告会の間は、議論に必要な知識を学習するフェーズとしました。そのため、ユース参加者は自分の議論テーマに関係する情報を集めて整理していました。

当日は計42名のユースと18名のメンターが第１回進捗報告会に参加しました。ブレイクアウトルームに分かれて、各班進捗報告のプレゼンを実施しました。プレゼンは5分から10分の長さで、班のテーマの定義を説明したのち、関連するキーワードをリストアップ、最後にその中で重要なキーワードを3つ取り上げて関係性を説明する流れとしました。インプットの段階でしっかりと調べていた結果、どの班もキーワードが充実しており、キーワードのグルーピングや関係性についても説明できていたと思います。また、他の班の発表に対する質問も多く、時間が足りなくなるほど活発な議論が展開されていました。

今後は第１回進捗報告会のキーワードをもとに、本質的な問いを立てていくフェーズに入ります。その結果は、6月1日に開催する第2回進捗報告会で発表します。

The 1st Progress Meeting of Main seminar, Earth Youth Summit 2024 in KYOTO was held on April 13, 2024. In this course, discussions are being conducted in small groups of 4-6 members per group in preparation for the Kyoto-Miyazu Summit in August. The period between the kick-off meeting and the 1st progress meeting was set as a phase for learning the knowledge necessary for the discussions. So, youth members searched and organized information related to their discussion topics.

A total of 42 youth and 18 mentors participated in the 1st progress meeting. The groups were divided into 4 breakout rooms and each group gave a presentation of their progress report. The presentations were 5 to 10 minutes in length and consisted of an explanation of the definition of the group’s theme, followed by a list of related keywords, and finally a description of the relationship between the three most important keywords among them. As a result of thorough research during the input stage, all groups had enough keywords and were able to explain the grouping of keywords and relationships among them. The youth in the other groups asked many questions about the presentations, and the discussions were so active that time was running short.

From now on, we will enter the phase of making essential questions based on the keywords from the 1st progress meeting. The results will be presented at the 2nd progress meeting to be held on June 1.

The kick-off meeting of the main seminar at Earth Youth Summit in KYOTO 2024 was held on 24 February 2024. The program was conducted online via Zoom from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. (Japan Standard Time), with 77 participants including high school students and mentors from around the world.

At first, Mr. Akimasa Yamashita (Vice Governor of Kyoto Prefecture, Japan) gave opening remarks. He mentioned that the Kyoto-Miyazu Summit will be held as part of this program and gave a warm message of hope for an active discussion on water and the environment based on their cultural backgrounds.

Next, Prof. Misuzu Asari (the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature) gave a keynote speech titled “You can change the society!”. She explained the history and current situation of the waste problem. Moreover, she emphasized the necessity of changing the present situation.

After that, we all had an icebreaker, and all members were divided into small groups. In the small group, self-introduction and group work were done. The group work was also an opportunity for the participants to meet for the first time with their colleagues, with whom they would deepen their discussions over the next six months. They talked about the level of interest each of them had in various social issues and solidified the direction of themes to be discussed in the group.

Each group will continue to discuss their theme and make a presentation in the 1st progress meeting on 13 April 2024.

2024年2月24日に地球環境ユースサミット in KYOTO 2024の本講座キックオフミーティングを開催しました。16時から19時（日本時間）にZoomによるオンライン形式で実施し、世界各国から高校生、メンター合わせて77名が参加しました。

参加国：日本、マレーシア、インドネシア、インド、タイ、ベトナム、中国

始めに山下晃正氏（京都府副知事）が開会挨拶を行いました。このプログラムで京都・宮津サミットを開催することに触れ、水と環境について各自の文化的背景を土台として積極的な議論が展開されることを期待していると温かいメッセージをいただきました。

また、浅利美鈴教授（総合地球環境学研究所）には「You can change the society!」と題して基調講演をしていただきました。ごみ問題の歴史と現状を紹介し、現状を変えていく必要性について説いていただきました。

その後は、全体でのアイスブレイクを挟み、少人数グループでの自己紹介とグループワークを実施しました。グループワークは、これから半年間一緒に議論を深めていく仲間との初対面の場でもありました。様々な社会問題に対して各自がどの程度関心があるのかについて話し、今後グループで議論していくテーマの方向性を固めました。

本講座では、各グループで議論を深めていき、4月13日に開催する第１回中間発表会で発表を行う予定です。

2024年2月10日(土)に京都パルスプラザ(京都府総合見本市会館)にて行われた京都環境フェスティバル2024に、地球環境ユースサミット2024 in KYOTOの有志の高校生メンバーでブースを出展しました。

どのようなブースにするか、約1か月前からオンラインミーティングを重ね、本番に臨みました。そこでは、見に来てくれた小さい子ども達にどのように分かりやすく、また楽しくユースサミットの活動を紹介するか、ということを中心に考えました。

当日は、東京や横浜から参加してくれたメンバーもいました。2023年の9月から行われた導入講座の各回の内容や、2023年3月に行われた前回の地球環境ユースサミット2023 in KYOTOの様子を紹介するポスターと、その場の気づきを自由に書き込めるフリースペースを展示しました。幼稚園児の子から、大人の方まで、幅広い年代の方に訪れて頂き、準備してきたことを、伝えることが出来ました。

8月に開催予定の京都・宮津サミットでのフィールドワークを企画してくださっている本講座を共にする宮津天橋高校のフィールド探究部とは、ブースが向かい合わせで、お互いのブースに立ち寄り、深い交流が出来ました。

その他にも京都府水産課のブースでアカモクという海草を食べたり、(とても美味しかったです！)、浅利先生が所属されている地球研のお話しを聞いたりと、学びの多い時間でした。ユースサミットの開催にご尽力くださっている京都府の方や企業の方ともお会いして、お礼や今後の抱負をお伝えすることもできました。

展示の途中、立憲民主党党首泉健太氏が、私たちのブースを訪れてくださるというもサプライズもありました。泉氏も、学生時代にユースサミットのような、国際交流イベントに参加されていたというお話を伺うことが出来ました。

今までの導入講座を振り返り、本講座に向けて1歩踏み出せた1日となりました。

Volunteer members of the Earth Youth Summit in Kyoto 2024 participated in the Kyoto Environmental Festival 2024 held at Kyoto Pulse Plaza on February 10, 2024.

We had a series of online meetings for about a month before the event to decide what kind of booth to set up. We focused on how to introduce Earth Youth Summit’s activities in an easy-to-understand and fun way to the small children who came to the event.

On the day of the event, some of our members even came from Tokyo and Yokohama. We displayed posters introducing the pre-seminars held from the summer of 2023 and the previous Earth Youth Summit in Kyoto 2023 held in the spring of 2023. We also prepared free space where visitors could freely write down their findings from the event and their ideas about sustainable life at school and home. We had visitors of all ages, from kindergarteners to adults, and were able to communicate what we had prepared.

We also had a chance to visit Miyazu Tenkyo High School fieldwork club’s booths and have a deep exchange with the students, who are planning fieldwork for the Miyazu Summit.

In addition, we had a chance to try a seaweed called akamoku at the Kyoto Prefectural Fisheries Division booth (very tasty!), visit Research Institute for Humanity and Nature’s booth, where Prof. Asari belongs to. We also met people from the Kyoto prefectural government and companies that have been working for Earth Youth Summit, and expressed our gratitude and hopes for the future.We were able to learn a lot of things and broaden our horizons.

During the exhibition, surprisingly, Mr.  Kenta Izumi, the leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), visited our booth. Mr. Izumi told us that he had participated in international exchange events like Earth Youth Summit when he was a student. Moreover we met people from the Kyoto prefectural government and companies that have been working for Earth Youth Summit, and expressed our gratitude and hopes for the future.

Overall, we were able to reflect on the Pre-seminars so far and to take a meaningful step forward toward the Main-seminar.

The 4^th Pre-Seminar was held on December 9^th, 2023. The lecturer is Alexander Ryota Keeley, an associate professor at Kyusyu University in Japan. He gave the lecture via video, and it explains about the Inclusive Wealth Index (IWI) for measuring sustainability. IWI is a different index from GDP, and the main theme of the lecture is how to measure sustainability.

At this time, participants joined from Japan, Malaysia, China, Thailand, etc. Though this theme is difficult to discuss, they tried to explain their ideas and discussed them actively. At first, participants did their self-introduction and shared their impressions of the lecture. Then we made small groups, each containing 3~4 members, and conducted the group discussion.

The first theme is “What is the challenge when measuring sustainability, and is GDP enough for us?”. The difference of the country scales and the difference of available data are listed. Most participants said GDP is not enough for measuring sustainability. The reason is sustainability has a lot of aspects and it is not measured by only the economic growth.

The second theme is “What is the concept of the Inclusive Wealth Index, and what further actions do we need to mobilize the countries?”. Most of the ideas participants showed are related to the explanation in the lecture video. In the latter question, there are many original ideas like spreading education or convincing the country leaders.

Moreover, an interesting new question was cast during the discussion. It is “Should the indicator be used for international assessment or for assessing growth in the home country?”. To this question, many participants agreed that we should use it comparing the countries and motivated to improve the Index.

2023年12月9日に導入講座第4回を開催しました。第4回はキーリーアレクサンダー竜太さん（九州大学准教授）を講師にお招きし、英語の講義動画を提供していただきました。講義では、サステナビリティを計る指標としてInclusive Wealth Index(IWI)の説明がありました。これまで使われてきたGDPとは異なる指標であり、サステナビリティをどのように評価するかがメインテーマとなりました。

今回は日本、マレーシア、中国、タイなどから受講生が参加しており、難しい内容ながら活発な議論が展開されました。自己紹介、講義動画の感想を共有した後、3～4人1グループでグループディスカッションを実施しました。

1つ目のテーマは「サステナビリティを評価する際の困難は何か？GDPはサステナビリティを評価する上で十分か？」でした。困難として挙げられたのは、国ごとの規模の違いや利用可能なデータの違いでした。またGDPはサステナビリティを十分には評価できないという意見が多く、その理由としてはサステナビリティには様々な側面があり経済の成長のみでは測れないからという意見がありました。

2つ目のテーマは「Inclusive Wealth Indexのコンセプトとは何か？国を動かすためには何が必要か」でした。Inclusive Wealth Indexのコンセプトは講義動画での説明された考え方について話すユースが多かったです。後者に対しては、教育を普及させることや国のリーダーに働きかけることと様々な案が出てきました。

また、議論の中で新たに興味深い問が出てきました。それが「指標は国家間評価に使うべきか、それとも自国の成長評価に使うべきか」です。これに対して、国家間評価をして競争しながら向上させていく方がいいというユースの意見が多かったように思います。

11月18日(土)に国立京都国際会館にて行われた、第14回「KYOTO地球環境の殿堂」表彰式、京都環境文化学術フォーラム国際シンポジウムにて、地球環境ユースサミットに参加された京都府内の高校生2人が、ポスター展示とエゴ・レモスさんへのインタビューとを行いました。

展示したポスターは、2023年3月の京北での地球環境ユースサミットの成果報告が内容で、表彰式・シンポジウム会場の出入口付近にて貼られ、多くの方に見て頂きました。

また、高校生2人は表彰式や受賞者の講演、シンポジウムなども鑑賞し、自らの学びとしていました。

シンポジウムなどの終了後、高校生2人はエゴ・レモスさんへのインタビューを行いました。エゴさんは、東ティモールの国民的歌手でありながら、環境保全活動家として「アジアのノーベル賞」といわれるマグサイサイ賞を11月11日に受賞したばかりという方です。2人はエゴさんに、東ティモールで最も重要な活動とは何かやエゴさん自身の音楽活動と環境保全活動との関連を伺いました。また、2人が自分の感じている活動の難しさを相談してアドバイスを貰ったりしました。

エゴさんは持ち前のユーモアで終始場を和ませ、写真撮影の際もちょっとした声出しでその場の全員を笑顔にしていました。

Two high school students from Kyoto who participated in the Earth Youth Summit held a poster exhibition and interviewed Mr. Eugenio Lemos at the 14th Earth Hall of Fame KYOTO Commendation Ceremony & The Earth Forum Kyoto on November 18 (Sat) at Kyoto International Conference Center.

The posters were displayed near the entrance to the ceremony and symposium venue, and were viewed by many people. The posters reported on the results of the Earth Youth Summit held in Keihoku this March.

The students also watched the award ceremony, lectures by the members of the 14th Earth Hall of Fame Kyoto (inductees), and symposium to learn from them. The inductees was selected based upon their contributions to the preservation of the global environment.

After the symposium, the students interviewed Mr. Eugenio Fatima Lemos (Ego Lemos). He is a national singer in Timor-Leste and also an environmental conservation activist. He just received the Magsaysay Award, commonly known as “Asia’s Nobel Prize,” on November 11 as an environmental conservation activist. They asked him about his most important activities in Timor-Leste and the relationship between his music and environmental conservation activities. They also consulted with him the difficulties they were facing in their activities and received advice from him.

His lovely sense of humor made the whole event relaxed, and he made everyone smile with a little vocalization during the photo shoot.

Earth Youth Summit 2024 in KYOTO (for high school students)
Main-seminar & Kyoto-Miyazu Summit Application Guidelines

Earth Youth Summit 2024 in KYOTO will be in two parts: the pre-seminar and the main-seminar. There are only two more pre-seminars left, and the main-seminar will begin in February 2024. In addition, an onsite program “Kyoto-Miyazu Summit” will be held in Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan in August 2024. During the main seminar, participants will engage in deep discussions about a particular topic with youth from around the world. In the Kyoto-Miyazu Summit, they will share and further delve into the discussions they had. Proposals from Earth Youth Summit 2024 in KYOTO will be continuously released after the program concludes.

Application Requirements

1. Applicants must be in their 3rd year of junior high school, 1st or 2nd year of high school (or those who are in the equivalent grade) in January 2024.
2. Those who are interested in the leadership for the next generation, and activities related to environmental issues and the SDGs.
3. Those who can prepare to participate in seminars by using online meeting applications, such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

How to apply

・ The registration form for the main-seminar will be sent to you after you have applied for the pre-seminar.
・ To participate in the main-seminar, you must attend at least one pre-seminar. Please enter the pre-seminar first. (Entry page for the pre-seminar: https://kyoto-youthsummit.com/en/entry/)
* Note that although the deadline on the pre-seminar entry page is written as 12th January, we have extended it until 31st January. Please disregard the earlier date and feel free to submit your application.
・For those who are unable to attend the 6th pre-seminar (10th February), a supplementary pre-seminar is planned. Participation in this supplementary seminar will also be considered as one attendance.
・ Please refer to the flowchart in the application guideline for deadlines. The first deadline is 31st January, 2024.

地球環境ユースサミット2024 in KYOTO（Earth Youth Summit 2024 in KYOTO）
本講座および京都･宮津サミット　参加者募集

「地球環境ユースサミット2024 in KYOTO」は、2023年9月から開始した導入講座をまもなく終え、いよいよ本講座（2024年2月～8月）と京都・宮津サミット（2024年8月8日～10日）を開始します。本講座では特定のテーマについて国内外のユース参加者と議論を深め、京都・宮津サミットでは本講座での議論内容を共有しさらなるブラッシュアップを行います。これらを通じて得られた成果は、2024年8月以降、様々な機会で発信します。

対象

① 2024年1月時点で中学3年生～高校2年生（またはそれに該当する学年の方）
※日本国外の中学校、高校からも参加可能
② 次世代のリーダーの在り方、環境問題や SDGs に関する活動に興味関心のある方
③ オンライン会議システム（Microsoft Teams、Zoomなど）に参加できる環境を用意できる方

・本講座の登録フォームは、導入講座申込後に通知します。
・本講座に参加するには、導入講座に1回以上参加することが必要です。まずは導入講座への申込を行ってください。（導入講座　申込ページ：https://kyoto-youthsummit.com/entry/）
※導入講座申込ページでは締め切りが1月12日となっておりますが、1月31日まで延長しておりますので、無視してお申し込みください。
・第6回導入講座（2月10日開催）にどうしても参加できない方向けに補修を実施予定です。補修への参加も1回の参加と見なします。
・各種締め切りは募集要項に記載のフローチャートをご参照ください。実質の締め切りは2024年1月31日です。

2023年3月21日から23日の3日間、オンラインと京都市京北地域（あうる京北）において、初となる地球環境ユースサミットを開催しました。１カ月足らずの募集にも関わらず、世界15カ国以上から、約200名の高校生を中心としたユースの参加が得られました。日本からも、北海道から中国・四国地域まで、全国からの参加となりました。
